Dr. Lan Joo

Dr. Lan Joo is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Courage, Hope, Care Institute Inc., which aims to conduct educational research and provide STEAM education to unprivileged children in the United States and worldwide via online and offline programs. She currently develops strategies for the organization, designs C.H.C. Institute programs, and directs/oversees the operations of the programs.

She received a B.A. in Political Science and Economics from the University of Wisconsin and an M.A. in International Affairs from George Washington University. While studying at the Elliott School, G.W.U., she worked at Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch as an intern. Additionally, Dr. Joo received an M.A. in International Education and an Ed.D in Educational Administration from G.W.U. Her current research focuses on educational and social equality and the linkage between education and the labor market.

Before founding the organization, Dr. Joo worked in the human development division at the World Bank for eighteen years, publishing numerous academic research and World Bank working papers on education, particularly the inequality of education and the skills gap in developing countries.  Furthermore, she encountered grim educational and social disparities while working in one of D.C.’s public schools.  All her previous studies and professional experiences were a foundation for building this organization, leading to her life dedicated to children from low-income families in the U.S.A. and developing countries.
